A warm welcome to our Year 3 class. Your Year 3 staff are Mrs Sharrock, Mrs Swan and Mrs Latham. What Your Children Will Be Learning in 
Their Autumn Term
English
During the Autumn Term, children will focus on developing their reading and writing skills. They will read a range of texts, including stories and poems, and learn to analyse characters and settings. In writing, they will practise composing narratives and reports, focusing on grammar and punctuation.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students will explore number concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They will also work on problem-solving skills and understanding shapes and measurements.
Science
This term, children will study topics related to living things and their habitats. They will engage in practical activities and experiments to learn about ecosystems and the importance of biodiversity.
History
Students will learn about key events in World War 2, and delve into local history, examining significant events and figures from our community. They will develop skills in research and critical thinking by exploring different perspectives on historical narratives.
Geography
In Geography, children will learn about maps and their features. They will explore physical and human geography, focusing on different cultures and environments around the world.
Art and Design
This term, students will experiment with various art materials and techniques. They will create their own artwork inspired by famous artists and learn about the principles of design.
Physical Education
In Physical Education, children will participate in a range of sports and activities, promoting teamwork and healthy living. They will develop their skills in coordination, balance, and strategy through games and exercises. The children will also attend swimming lessons every Monday afternoon, led by Wigan Council Swimming Teachers.
Music
Students will explore different music genres and instruments. They will have opportunities to sing and perform, as well as learn about musical notation and rhythm.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
This term, children will focus on building relationships and understanding emotional wellbeing. They will learn the importance of respect, empathy, and making healthy choices.
