Year 5 2021/2022

Welcome to the Year 5 page for this academic year!

This will be updated with information and photographs so that you can see what the class have been getting up to inside and outside of school during each half term.
We cannot wait for another fun-filled year,

The New Outdoor Classroom

At St. John’s, we are very lucky because we have just had a new outdoor classroom built! We tested it out with some quiet reading and it was so lovely to be outside to enjoy a good book.

The Rainforest - the 4 layers

During our geography topic, we have learnt all about the different layers in the rainforest including what the conditions are like and the animals that live there as a result. The children then made their own rainforests and included the appropriate animals for each layer of their creation.

The rainforest - non-chronological reports

In our English lessons, the children have researched, planned, drafted, edited and written a non-chronological report about the rainforest. The children selected appropriated headings and subheadings for their information. Have a look at the brilliantly organised work and I am sure you will learn lots of different facts along the way!

Brazil - designing and making Samba instruments

We have been learning all about the culture of Brazil including the food, festivals and music. We designed and made our own samba instruments based on a ganza and played them as if we were in Rio De Janeiro..

Easter - Making cards

Before breaking up for the Easter holidays, the children travelled around to all of the different teachers and completed lots of activities. One of these activities was creating these beautiful Easter cards that were taken home and gifted to their loved ones.

World War 2 - Baking a wartime recipe

As part of our history topic on World War 2, we looked at how life was very different for those living in England. The children looked at the rationing of foods and saw how limited people were when shopping and making food. We then planned, made and tasted our own wartime recipe of eggless sponge cake.

Well-being - taking notice

As part of our 5 ways to well-being, the children took notice of each other and spent time asking important questions to get to know more about their friend. We took pictures and wrote down some of the things that we learnt about them.
