Hello and welcome to the Year 5 class page!
 This will be full of documents of what we will be learning in each subject every half term, as well as showing you some of the activities we have completed. Please keep checking back as it will be updated throughout the year.

Autumn 1

Science Plant Fertilisation

We looked at the different parts of the plant and how new seeds were formed. We used honey to represent the sticky stigma, sand for the pollen and white tack for the ovules. Our hands, which played the part of an insect, then showed how they were carried until fertilisation.

Geography Recognising Countries

We have been looking at the continents and the countries within them. We worked with a partner to find countries in our Atlas and label the missing countries on our maps. We had to look at the shape of each country carefully before matching them.

PE with Wigan Warriors

This half term, we have been really lucky to have Wigan Warriors in to teach weekly lessons of PE. We have been looking at the sport of handball and learning how to move and pass the ball to our team mates.

Our Trip To Chester Zoo

In Year 5, we were lucky enough to be invited to Chester Zoo for the day. We had such an incredible day seeing the animals and learning in the process.

Science Lava Lamps

We have been looking at reversible and irreversible changes in our Science topic. The children used Alka-Seltzer tablets to create and irreversible chemical reaction. We really enjoyed watching the bubbles bounce around the oil and talked about how Carbon Dioxide had been made as a new product.

Art Collage Using Mixed Media

In our Art lessons, we captured and edited photographs of ourselves using an editing tool on the laptops. The children then used watercolour paints, oil pastels and other medias to create a collaged background.

Cooking Spaghetti Bolognese

In our DT topic, we have been reasearching Spaghetti Bolognese and planning our own recipe. The children used many different techniques such as chopping, grating and mixing to make their own version. We looked at the nutitional value in our Spaghetti Bolognese and how it fits so well into our 'Eat Well' Plate. It was absolutely delicious and the children did a fantastic job!
